The primary project goals were to provide a state-of-the-art whole house integrated control system, encompassing control of audio, video, home theater, lighting, window treatments, HVAC, radiant interior & exterior floor heat, security, surveillance & pool control. Our firm also designed, provided and installed the house telephone & intercom system, as well as the house broadband network. Our intention was to provide user interfaces that were comprehensive, intuitive, and easy to use. User access of all integrated control functions was required at all touch screen interfaces throughout the residence. Our client’s ability to access the whole house system remotely from off-site was also a requirement. For the home theater, our goal was to provide a high-end home theater system including that would be able to produce HD video sources, 1080P sources and first class surround sound performance.

The main goal for this area was to create a multi-purpose room to suit the needs of the whole family. This space is primarily used for watching sports and movies, playing cards and billiards, and hosting casual parties. The project encompassed integration into an existing whole-house audio system, a home theater with surround sound and independent televisions over a bar area. We transformed the client’s walk-out basement into the ultimate fun room. The client, an ex-college football player, wanted a combination of an elegant sports bar, home theater and billiard room. He and his son enjoy watching sports on multiple high definition screens, while his daughter is partial to hosting movie nights with friends. Everyone in the family loves accessing music anywhere in the house.

The control system consists of a home theater with a state-of-the-art Runco projection system, Triad speakers and Denon surround sound electronics. We also included four additional small flat panel LCD televisions, all with separate satellite receiver feeds. This allows the sports enthusiasts in the family to watch five different games simultaneously. Speaker sound can originate from the TVs around the bar, as well as the big screen in the theater.

The client had broad expectations for this project. He wanted us to enhance his home with a multi-room audio system and a recreational space to enjoy with his family and friends. He wanted us to transform a bland unfinished basement into an appealing recreation room with a dedicated home theater. Another aspect of the project centered on integrating the lighting to enable the client to control it remotely for security purposes. He wanted to be able to fluctuate the setting of the lights to give the home a “lived-in” appearance whenever he was away.

The scope of the project was quite comprehensive. It encompassed 10 different listening areas, including the kitchen, family room, dining room, living room, exercise room, playroom, game room, bar room, theater and patio. The project featured three local video systems, as well as the creation of a dedicated home theater. The client can control the audio and video home functions with ease thanks to the Control 4 home controller system processor with built-in 500 GB hard drive and ZigBee radio transmitter. There is also a Control 4 lighting system with wireless programmable non-dimmer switches to give the client remote control of the outdoor lighting. Various keypads allow the lighting to be adjusted on site with the touch of a button.
