Waterfront Home, Westport, CT
This gorgeous waterfront home boasts beautiful views of a private beach and cove. The home has a wall of windows so the view is unobstructed. With so much natural light flooding the home, it was necessary for window treatments. Because of the size and location of some of the windows, the clients required the shades be motorized so that with a push of a button the common living areas could be protected from the glaring sun. The motorized window treatments are integrated into the Lutron Homeworks QS lighting system. The lighting system is also controlled via the Savant Control System which allows the homeowner to access her music, video, security cameras and HVAC controls from her iPhone or iPads.
The home also has a Panasonic phone system for intercomming between rooms and for paging purposes.
The client was looking for a fully integrated Savant home automation system complete with multiple zones of audio, local video systems, Lutron QS whole-house lighting, custom Fiber-Optic lighting control, HVAC control, Lutron Sivoia-QS motorized roller shades, generator control, pond-water motion jet control, security system monitoring and control, and motion activated video surveillance cameras.
The home is located on a 142-acre property that backs up to a nature preserve. They wanted to use the cameras not only for security purposes, but also to be alerted of an animal’s presence.
Being able to control their home from mobile devices was a must-have for our clients, especially for remote control when they plan to travel. These very tech savvy clients planned to use the Savant system to its full potential by integrating as much control as physically possible.
LI Sound Beauty
This beautiful home located on a private drive on the Long Island Sound has a Savant Integrated Control System which controls the house music, the Lutron Homeworks lighting system, HVAC, surveillance cameras and the security system. The client has two lovely surround sound television watching areas. The family room has a Samsung 60” television with a Leon center channel speaker and Sonance Visual Performance flush mounted speaker systems for the front and rear left and right channel surround sound speakers. The recreation room has two Samsung televisions, one of which has a simple surround sound system.
The home was quite expansive and so it was necessary to install a commercial grade network in order for the systems to function properly. We used a Pakedge K63 network with 8 wireless access points for inside the home and one outdoor wireless access to provide network access from all exterior spaces.
The client really enjoys working out, and has active teenagers, so instead of just building an exercise room they built a gym and a separate dance studio. They requested that the dance studio have an impressive sound system that helped to push them through grueling workouts. We chose to install Triad In-Wall Silver/4 Satellite speakers and a large in-wall subwoofer. After providing all equipment cut-out dimensions to the glass installer, the cut-out for the subwoofer was too tight for the installation. We cleverly filed down the wood on the cabinet that enclosed the subwoofer and we were able to install it without cracking the glass.
